Outstanding Volunteer Highlight
Irma Heartwell, Retired Prescient 4 Constable Provides 50% of the shelter food
budget by collecting food donations from Kroger, HEB, Cosco and several other
sources and distributing it to WHW weekly. She has to be at the store's
loading dock at 6:30am in order to acquire the highly valuable goods
like lunch meat, baby diapers, salad dressings, and eggs. Irma developed
this routine as her way of giving back to her community. "We would always be running
out of food items if it weren't for Irma's generosity, " said a grateful client. Irma says she just
loves it when the children at the shelter come running to see what she has to
give this week. "Sometimes I even have candy..."
