Welcome to Women Helping Women
Helping Women in Crisis become self-sufficient through training and job placement in non-traditional fields

Women Helping Women is a not-for-profit 501c(3) Texas corporation dedicated to providing training and job placement in non-traditional occupations to displaced homemakers, battered women, women living in shelters and women welfare recipients.

In 1983, Faye Turner's husband became ill and she was thrust into the role of supporting her family. The hard lessons she learned motivated her to form Women Helping Women (WHW) to help women in crisis become self-sufficient. WHW serves Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, and Waller counties.

Stepping Up to Change Lives:

  • Corporate Community Partners guarantee jobs for our clients who successfully complete the 31 week job training program.
  • Some of the companies making such a big difference in our women's and their children's lives are:

    * Kellogg Brown & Root * Dow Corning
    * Baker Hughes * Pepsi
    * Puma Construction * Georgia Electric
    * CenterPoint Energy * Kinsel Industries
    * SBC * Walgreens
    * Louisiana Pacific RR * Eckerd

    To prepare women for the work force, WHW clients are given a:

    "Tool Box For Life"

  • Clients are trained for jobs with ALL Corporate Community Partners to provide them long term employment security.
    * Highway construction, cable installation, manufacturing, forklift operator, carpentry
  • NO minimum wages here - good paying, benefit bearing jobs that turn life around for an entire family!

  • The cost of training and job placement for one woman through WHW is about $1000. In return, this investment saves taxpayers $30,000 per individual, per year. The hundreds of women trained through this program since 1987 have saved taxpayers millions of dollars.

    Please consider being a part of the WHW sponsorship team, by making a donation or volunteering to provide job training or needed jobs. Volunteers are also needed at our shelter facility. Your help can really make a difference in the life of a woman and her children. All assistance is appreciated. Contributions are tax deductible.

    WHW's founder Faye Turner was selected as one of four honorees for this year's "Speaking for Women's Health" event presented by Houston PBS channel 8. She has invited her grand daughter Shelby Anne Turner, age 6, to be her special guest at the award luncheon on Oct. 4, 2003. Turner feels "women must hold the door open for the next generation." ... click for more info >>
